providing video documentation as so-called proof. What the outraged public generally doesn’t

</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Firearm storage
is one of the most important steps in any personal or home defense plan. There
are many options for effectively safeguarding your guns. The most important
thing is that no unauthorized people have access to your gun.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">2.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Learn the
concealed carry laws for your state. You got the basics at the CCW class. Now
go and learn the rest. Keep up with any changes. If you ever have to use your
firearm, knowing the law may keep you out of court, or worse.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">3.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">“Situational
Awareness” means being aware of your surroundings at all times. Criminals look
for victims who are unaware and look clueless. Always have an exit plan.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">4.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Avoid conflict
if possible. Stay away from low-light and isolated locations. Try not to walk
alone. Use your firearm as a last resort.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">5.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">If you decide
to use your firearm, several conditions should have already played out. Your life must clearly have been in danger,
there must have been intent to cause great bodily harm, and the attacker must
have the means to carry out the threat. It isn’t a decision to make lightly.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">6.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Maintaining
control of your firearm is paramount. In an attack, your assailant may try to
take your gun. Even a short course on firearm retention can help prevent this
from happening and ongoing training will ensure that your skills remain sharp.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">7.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Learning how to
move to cover may save your life. In addition, a moving target is much harder
to hit. But you also need to be able to shoot back while moving. Enroll in a
basic tactical movement class to master these skills.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">8.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">As mentioned in
number 7, shooting back is imperative, but if you’re a bad shot, things will
not end well. Regular training at the range is helpful, but so is dry fire
training where you can practice movement, shooting and cover in the comfort of
your own living room.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">9.</span><span style="font-size: 7pt; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: normal; text-indent: -0.25in;">
</span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Take a basic
course in first aid. If you or a loved one is attacked, you may need to do some
emergency patching up until first responders arrive.</span><br /><span style="color: #333333;"><br /></span><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">10 </span><span style="background: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Have a plan for
the aftermath. Know what you will say to police. Make no admission of guilt. Identify any potential witnesses. Identify yourself as a victim. Notify your
attorney at once. </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; text-indent: -0.25in;">Defending
yourself and your loved ones require skills that cannot be succinctly wrapped
up in a four hour course. It should be a lifelong goal, with each day bringing
new opportunities to give yourself the advantage in any confrontation.</span><!--[if !supportLists]--></div>

the bullet leaving the muzzle. While the time frame may seem instantaneous,
there is actually a series of actions, both physiological and physical, that
cause enough of a pause for the gun to move however slightly. Your intended
point of aim and your actual point of aim could be inches off depending on the
target distance. A good follow through requires keeping the gun as stable as
possible throughout the shooting cycle.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

unique logistical problems when it comes to carrying and drawing. Emerson has
solved some of these issues with a masterful design. The handle is skeletonized to reduce weight
and a large finger hole near the blade not only further reduces weight, but
allows for a better grip and draw. The La Griffe BT has an overall length of
about 4.9 inches, but the blade is nearly two inches of the total and razor
sharp. For that reason, the knife comes with a protective plastic holster.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

tucked securely between layers of clothing takes a little practice. Drawing the
knife is the easy part; simply tug on the handle and the blade will slide
out. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 19.3pt; margin-bottom: 18.75pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0in;">

Untucked shirts are easiest, but even with dress shirts, it may be quicker to
untuck them and draw rather than dry to maneuver the knife out by unbuttoning
the shirt. However, if you are wearing a tie, the button can be left open and
the tie will hide any printing.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to a hardness of 57-59RC. Although designed for neck carry, it can also be worn
attached to a belt via clip or carried in a pocket. This tough little knife
makes a nice addition for anyone looking to boost their personal defense
options. The MSRP is $110.95.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">For starters, Energizer’s e2 light is manufactured using
aircraft-grade aluminum alloy. An elastomer sleeve not only provides an
excellent grip, but also helps make the light impact resistant to 4 meters; an
important consideration for the field. When combined with a shatterproof lexan
lens, you almost have to <i>try</i> to break
the e2. An added bonus is that the e2 is water resistant to one meter for 30
minutes.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

your way on home on a back country road, the Energizer e2 is not your light.
Maximum illumination is 65 lumens, using the dependable high-tech CREE-LED. The
e2 is designed to operate in smaller areas and for the purposes of concealed
carry, in close-quarter combat situations. However, Energizer has taken the e2
to the next level by using an integrated electronic system that allows variable
light output ranging from 3.9 lumens for surreptitious operations to the
maximum 65 lumens.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

As a result, very few concealed carry permit holders are

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As author and international firearms trainer Gabe Suarez
points out in his article “Ambidextrous Gunfighting” at USConcealedCarry.com,
the hands often get shot during violent attacks, sometimes by chance, but more
often because of shooter error:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .5in;">
“<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">Primarily, the shooter is placing the gun midway between him
and the adversary, thus any incoming rounds will likely impact the gun and
hands. Secondly, the adversary may visually focus on the gun thus orienting his
physical index toward the gun as he fires.” (</span><a href="https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/ambidextrous-gunfighting/?utm_source=blogger&utm_medium=post85&utm_campaign=patseo&utm_term=usconcealedcarry"><span style="background: white;">Read more at USConcealedCarry.com</span></a><span style="background: white; color: #333333;">)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: .5in;">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">If the fairly
significant odds of getting shot in the hands aren’t enough to convince you to
learn to shoot with your weak hand, there are more personal defense situations
where dexterity with either hand could save your life.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">One of these
situations happen when you move off the firing line in order to avoid being a
stationary target. When moving, it sometimes becomes difficult to keep the
strong hand pointed at the attacker and a quick switch is needed, much like a
running back switching the football from left to right hand to avoid fumbling.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">Using a backup
gun also provides a different dynamic. During an attack, it takes time to think
about what to do with a jammed gun. It may be quicker to hold on to the gun and
draw the backup with your weak hand, rather than trying to manage a two-handed
shot.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">Though you may
never have to clear a property, the best method is to clear corners by sweeping
right to left or vice-versa. Having the ability to switch hands while doing so
gives you a tactical advantage. If you do engage an attacker in close quarters,
one hand may be indisposed trying to disarm the attacker or fend off blows or
stabs. It may be a matter of life and death to be able to adroitly use the
other hand to fire your weapon.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333;">Learning to
shoot ambidextrously is not an impossible undertaking. Like all weapon skills,
it’s a matter of practice. Practice shooting with each hand and practice
transferring the gun from one hand to the other. Practice one-handed shooting
and two-handed shooting, emphasizing trigger-finger placement each time. Learn to draw from the weak side, as well as
dropping and retrieving your weapon, along with other real world scenarios.
Learn to load, reload, and fix malfunctions in the field with one hand. It can
be done. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Although kids may not be looking for a gun specifically,

concealed carry firearm, most people are looking for some combination of
caliber, weight, reliability, and accuracy. However, the sights on any given
weapon are taken for granted. Gun sights are nearly as old as guns themselves,
first appearing in the mid-1400’s. These
simple sights consisted only of a bead on the front sight and a raised notch
for the rear.</div>

<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">In terms of concealed carry and personal defense, there are
basically four types of sights in common use today. The most basic sight is the
traditional ramp style used in old-school revolvers like the Smith & Wesson
Chief’s Special (Model 36). The inclined sight at the end of the muzzle made
drawing from a holster much easier. Unfortunately unlike the semi-autos, the
majority of revolvers do not have sights that can be swapped out or adjusted.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Most semi-automatic pistols feature the “standard 3-dot”
sights. With this setup, the rear of the
slide has a horizontal metal strip attached with a colored dot on either side.
At the front end, a small post is centered with another colored dot. The sights work by aligning the dot on the
front post between the two rear dots.
This system has proven to be extremely popular with semi-auto shooters,
particularly for concealed carry. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Express style sights aren’t as common as the 3-dot sights,
but can be equally as accurate. These
sights originated with big game rifles where a quick, accurate target fix could
literally mean the difference between life and death. The sights were comprised of a large V at the
rifle breech with an accompanying oversized dot on the muzzle. This allowed the
hunter to at least be in the ballpark when aiming under duress and to lock down
to a tighter aim when there was more time.
This design has been incorporated into semi-autos and works in much the
same way as the 3-dot set-up.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Night sights are more of a modification than a style, but
almost a necessity if you’re using your gun as part of a personal defense plan.
Night sights make targeting much easier under low-light conditions through the
use of glow-in-the-dark substances like Tritium, but aren’t a panacea for poor
shooting. Bad aim can only be fixed through practice and training. Most modern
semi-autos can accommodate night-sights.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Proper sights can make a huge difference in accuracy, but if
your sights require anything more than loosening a screw or two, it’s probably
best to have a professional do the job so it’s done correctly. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="background: white; color: #333333; font-family: "Calibri",sans-serif; font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;">Take some time to figure out what the right

to pick just one item to carry? What are the odds you would pick the
flashlight? Not good, most would say. But the flashlight as the ultimate
concealed carry weapon deserves further consideration. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A powerful flashlight has several advantages over a gun or
knife. In his article “If You Only Carry ONE Weapon…” at USConcealedCarry.com,
author Kevin Michalowski explains why the flashlight should be your weapon of
choice:<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq" style="margin-bottom: 10.0pt; margin-left: .5in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 12.0pt;">
“<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Consider the lowly flashlight. You can carry one anywhere.
There are no flashlight-free zones. You can carry one on an airplane or into a
post office. In most cases, a flashlight will not get a second look.” (</span><a href="https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/carry-one-weapon/?utm_source=blogger&utm_medium=post75&utm_campaign=patseo&utm_term=usconcealedcarry"><span style="background: white; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Read more at
USConcealedCarry.com</span></a><span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">)</span></blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A flashlight also has the advantages of being fairly
lightweight, easy to conceal, and has virtually no operational learning curve. The modern flashlight isn’t designed to be an
offensive weapon; in the vast majority of violent encounters, the victim should
be looking for a means to escape rather than going on the attack. There are
several reasons why the flashlight excels in this role.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
First, most violent encounters occur in poorly lit
areas. If you have to walk through a
shadowy area, turning on a flashlight beam while you do so accomplishes three
things: it draws attention to you while you walk, it takes away the element of
surprise, and it provides light where there was none.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
A powerful flashlight can also become a tactical
weapon. When shone directly into an
attacker’s eyes, the beam can cause pupil contraction, temporary blindness, and
disorientation, giving you time to escape, or at least find a better vantage
point or defensive position.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
In a close-quarter fight, the flashlight becomes an
effective impact weapon, also known as kubaton or club. A self-defense class
that emphasizes strike points, nerve centers, and pressure points might be a
good idea to increase not only your skill level, but your self-confidence as
well.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
And even in the most vicious close-quarter encounters, the
likelihood of anyone dying from a flashlight blow is small. That will save you
a ton of paperwork and court appearances.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
Of course, a flashlight is no substitute for a gun when your
life or that of a loved one is on the line, but in many situations, it can help
diffuse a potentially volatile scenario or provide a blinding distraction to
give you time to escape.<o:p></o:p></div>

Like any .357 Magnum firearm, ammunition is subject to

Depending on the situation, there are several alternative

own strengths and weaknesses, but there’s one option that accomplishes the same
effect as a gunshot minus the carnage: the Taser.<o:p></o:p></div>

The Taser is a formidable non-lethal weapon traditionally
used by police to subdue combative suspects in non-life-threatening situations.

The weapon works by shooting charged barbs into the suspect

neuromuscular system, causing the body to briefly collapse into a lifeless

Author and Law Enforcement trainer Scott W. Wagner vividly

general public. The compact C2 can
produce voltage for up to 30 seconds, the longest of any of the models and it
is also the least expensive at $350. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

It packs a 5-second jolt and can run on standard batteries. It retails for
about $499. Another compact Taser, the X26C, launches the same barbed
cartridges used by law enforcement agencies and can continuously shock for 10
seconds. It lists for about $999. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="background: white; color: #333333; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">If you’re thinking that your personal defense kit is incomplete
without a Taser, there are a couple of caveats to consider. First, check local
laws, as there may be some limitations regarding the legality of carrying a
Taser. This is especially true in high security areas such as airports. Second,
learn how to use the Taser. Both prongs must be imbedded in the target for the
Taser to work. However if you miss the target, the Taser can still be wielded
as a stun gun.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

reasons.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
